The Gilded Guest
Reservations were made for Christmas brunch each year. I remember winter sunlight filling the beautiful dining room and catching in the reflection of polished silver. She would arrive dressed entirely in winter white, wearing a short fur coat and gilded heels, with a perfectly matched clutch in hand.
Sparkling pepper, dewy fruit and modern florals captured the brightness of her arrival. Blushed peony, sheer rose and airy florals rested against her warm skin, while clean musk and white cedarwood left an impression of impeccable taste. It was her fragrance. It is how I remember her.
Her confidence came naturally. She was striking, warm and carefree, with grace that could not be rehearsed. Her fragrance holds the atmosphere exactly as she left it. She was a distinguished woman whose beauty drew the eye, but whose character and poise left the lasting impression on me. I never knew her name. I never needed to.
